I purchased this for my mother after her old TF101 finally fell behind the times in terms of hardware compatibility. I was looking for a mid-range tablet at or around $200 for web surfing, reading books, and playing cards, which would continue to perform for the next four or five years or so. I also wanted something with a larger screen, decent battery life, and that didn't weight too much. After some research, I chose this T580 Galaxy Tab A.It came with a charger (white) and in a non-retail box, but the device itself looks brand new - indistinguishable from something right off the shelf. I checked it over, installed all her apps, and it has been working for about two months now without any trouble at all. Battery life for reading/browsing/cards sorts of activity is at least 4-5 hours and probably more. Movement is silky-smooth, load times are minimal, and the screen quality is great (full 1080p with good pixel density). I'd recommend picking up a case, and maybe a anti-glare screen protector to cut down on the reflections a bit, but it's a solid tablet. I've already recommended it to another family member who is looking for something similar.I gave my mother the TF101 a couple years ago, and she taught herself to use tablets around the age of 60, with very little help needed from me, so I'm pretty proud of her. Now she even helps my grandmother use her own tablet - often over the phone, no less. If you have relatives in that range, they might enjoy something like this, it's pretty user friendly with the touch interface and a lot of older folks like playing cards or casino games on them, just like the previous generations used to watch TV or listen to the radio. The only complaint she's issued is that the bezel is a little narrow, so that she sometimes will accidentally advance pages in her books or change other elements in whatever she's doing through incidental touch-screen contact. A case helps mitigate this, but it's still a minor problem. She said she'd take off a quarter star for this, so we'll just round up.Otherwise, my mother's very happy with it, so I'm happy with it. I'll leave an update if it gives us any trouble, but for now I'd say it's a good buy.EDIT: It has been about six months, and my mother reports that the tablet is still doing great, no problems at all. She uses it essentially every single day, mostly for reading, looking up recipes, and playing some card games. We're both still happy with it.EDIT2: It has been about a year now. Tablet is going strong, no problems with the device. We did have to replace the charger, just recently. It was becoming intermittent for some reason, same thing happened with two separate cords. Not sure what the deal was there, may be a usage issue, but a new charger was all of $10 and the problem was resolved, so not too bad all and all. The rating stays.EDIT3: Two years and no problems whatsoever with the tablet; it's running as well as ever. I just wanted to leave this last update for those worried that a refurbished tablet might not last - for us, at least, it's doing just fine.
