Description

Product Description The world is big and your kingdom small. Small when compared to the world, that is, it's moderate-sized when compared to other kingdoms. But in a big world like this one - big when compared to smaller worlds anyway, if such things exist, it's moderate-sized when compared to worlds of roughly the same size, and a little small when compared to worlds just a little larger - well, to make a long story short - short when compared to longer stories anyway - it is time to stretch your borders. You've heard of far-off places - exotic countries, where they have pancakes but not waffles, where the people wear the wrong number of shirts, and don't even have a word for the look two people give each other when they each hope that the other will do something that they both want done but which neither of them wants to do. It is to these lands that you now turn your gaze. From the Manufacturer The world is big and your kingdom small. We have been playing Dominion for a couple of years. My sister and her husband gave us I own the original Dominion, the second edition, and Prosperity. Hinterlands is a fine addition to this group.Hinterlands is the most complex of the games in the sense that the cards have a lot of text on them that you have to read to understand what they do. And when you purchase them, there are immediate effects sometimes. I probably like it better than Prosperity, as the latter has a number of cards that are actually overpowered. I haven't felt like the Hinterlands cards suffer from this problem. If I was to buy only one Dominion set, I'd go for the original. However, after you have played a bunch, you start to want more variety in the available cards. you can play a Hinterlands-only game (many of them), but I am willing to pull random cards from all four of my sets. More Dominion variety is always better. For anyone not familiar with Dominion, it's a great game. Among the deck-building games, it's the most refined in my opinion. There are several reasons for this: The first is that you only get one buy per turn by default. So that's an extra resource aside from money and number of cards that you have to manage. In addition, every time you buy a victory point, which is what wins you the game, your deck becomes weaker. This means you have to think carefully about buying victory points versus cards that enhance your game. In most deck-builders you just buy whatever is most expensive...very little actual choice. In short, Dominion is a transcendently good game, and hinterlands is a worthy expansion for people who have played based Dominion a lot and want some more variety. We've played it a few times now and we definitely like the gaining cards mechanics that it revolves around. Only thing is that randomizing it is a bit tough just cause we're not sure what cards really work all that well together other than the already pre-made recommended sets. Good overall thoughAlthough the stated central theme of Hinterlands is "cards that do something immediately when you buy them or gain them," that is not what I first think of when I think of this expansion. (In fact, I had to go look at the box again to remind myself of the stated central theme.)Rather, when I think of the Hinterlands expansion, I think of new complexity. I also have the Seaside expansion, and whereas Seaside in a general sense took some standard fare (+X cards, +Y actions, +Z coins, etc.) and turned them on their head (you get those NEXT turn), Hinterlands seems to me to go into new territory altogether (very appropriate for the title!). There are cards such as Border Village (where when you gain that card you also gain a card costing less than it), Trader (where when you have to gain a certain card, such as a curse, you can gain a silver instead), and Scheme (where you can take an action card you have played and put it back on top of your deck). Now, of course, there will be exceptions to what I said (some cards still have +X cards, etc.) but the general feel I get when I play with Hinterlands is a deeper game with new and very different opportunities. I am very happy with this expansion and highly recommend it.Good expansion to the base set of cards. If you like dominion then this si worth getting. If you have not played dominion before you need to get the base set before you get thisEnglish language on the cards and instructions. As with all of the Dominion games Hinterlands did not fail to to meet my expectations. All of the games are always different, you never play the same game. If you also play different sets together you will always be suprised. This is expansion game and you will need either, Dominion base set, Dominion or Dominion Intrigue to play it.This is one of the nicest board games I have ever purchased. Great for kids and even more fun for adults who love gaming. Try them with all the other expansion sets. Great mixing and matchingGreat expansion. Offers varied opportunities for play. If you are a person who is not too keen on agressive gameplay, you will like this over Intrigue expansion.Never fails to please me this game. Got 4 previous sets. Every game is so different. No matter how many games you play. The inventor of this is a genius. Well happy AGAIN.
